Visitor Area

One element of being a Technology College is the remit and commitment to using the skills, resources and expertise within the school for the benefit of the community.
This encompasses working with our linked Primary Schools, other Secondary Schools in the area and with many other organisations and includes an expanding programme of development as a centre for adult learning within the community.

Adult Learning Programme
With the strong emphasis on Information and Communications Technology throughout the school, the majority of the courses that we have provided for adults within the community have involved basic, introductory and more advanced software applications courses all of which are held here at the Warwick School. Since starting this programme we have seen over 600 adult learners successfully complete these courses. We have also run a small computer club for adults from the local community with learning difficulty or disability. We are also working to provide some adult learning opportunities at locations outside school but within the local community.
However in addition to the IT courses, we are now also pleased to offer a course in Conversational French (details of all current courses on offer below)

First Steps into Computing is a FREE, six-hour course on three Wednesday evenings – January 6, 13 and 20 (between 4:30 and 6:30 p.m.) If you have no knowledge of using a computer, or have a little knowledge but want to gain some more confidence in using the basic features, this short course is designed especially for you.

Working with Microsoft Office Applications is a 16-hour course held over eight weeks (all Wednesdays 4:30—6:30 p.m. : Jan 27 through to Mar 24 but not Feb 17). It is aimed at users  who want to gain more knowledge and understanding of the main computer software applications (word processing, spreadsheets, internet etc). Please note that there is a modest charge of £35 for this course (this is just over £4 for each 2 hour class and is considerably less than is charged elsewhere for similar courses). We will be requesting payment of this, in advance, to reserve a place on the course.

Genealogy : Use the Internet and software to trace your family history and roots back into the past. There is now a host of information available and accessible to allow you to do this. This single session will help you discover where to look. Tuesday Feb 2, 4:30—6:30 p.m. (£10)

Get All Your Software — for Free : There is a vast amount of top-quality software available for free on the Internet including an excellent and comprehensive fully-featured “Office” suite. There is also free software for photo editing, anti-virus protection, desktop publishing and much more. We’ll show you how to get all of this (and will even give you  a free CD with several programs already on it and ready to download). Tue Feb 23, 4:30—6:30 p.m. (£10)

Desktop Publishing : Need to produce invitations, fliers, posters, banners or similar? We’ll use MS Publisher to show how this program allows far more creativity than a word processing package. Tue Mar 2, 4:30—6:30 p.m. (£10)

French : 10 “Conversational French for Near Beginners” classes will start on Wed Jan 13 (between 6:30 and 8:30 p.m.)  and continue on subsequent Wednesday evenings  - at a cost of £50 per person. These classes will take place in our computer-equipped Modern Languages suite and will be led by our enthusiastic Head of Modern Languages.

All of these courses are usually very popular so you are encouraged to book your place(s) as soon as possible. Please contact:

Note that all of the above computer courses will be based on using Windows XP and, where applicable, Office 2003 (but if you use Office 2007, we’ll show you a great desktop “flash” utility that leads you through the differences)
