Careers

We are currently working towards Investor in Careers Award.  This is a quality standard for the management of Information Advice and Guidance in schools which is based on the Investor in People award which we recently achieved.  In order to be awarded we will need to demonstrate that we meet designated criteria by building a portfolio of evidence, will have 2 visits from an independent external assessor and finally will be required to give a presentation to a panel.  We will keep you informed of our progress via the school web site and Feedback.

Stop Press We are pleased to announce that we have been awarded Stage 1 for “Investors in Careers” and assessment for stage 2 is imminent.

We attach great importance to careers education and to individual counselling about education and career opportunities. Our Careers Library contains an extensive range of up-to-date literature on courses and careers, together with prospectuses for Further and Higher Education establishments. Students are taught how to use these resources and are helped to clarify their career aspirations.

Our careers programme encourages students to become aware of their strengths and helps them make informed choices about GCSE and sixth form courses. All Year 9 students are introduced to software that will help with careers decisions and Year 10 students benefit from our Work Experience programme. Year 11 students are offered individual tutorials by arrangement with tutor. We also arrange individual interviews with College Tutors and connexions careers advisors are available at Parents’ Evenings
