Reigate and Banstead Writes 2020
This year’s competition has been won by Orla McNally a first form student at Reigate Grammar School. I am pleased to tell you that Warwick had success! Ella Dutton, Year 7 was awarded third place with her story Power of the Past. She is ‘thrilled’.
Florence Sarenco, Annabelle Allen and Emily Field, all Year 7 students, made the final 35 stories that were put in front of the judges. Out of 501 entries (deadline was extended after lockdown) this is pretty good.
Thanks to all who offered to sift. However, with the corona crisis and amount of entries. I relied on librarian colleagues from other local schools in the end. It has been a challenge but all over now.
Ella’s story will be published ‘online’ by Surrey Libraries, The Harlequin and other partners on Friday 19th June.
As ever, thanks to all of you who encourage an support this. I strongly feel that having these opportunities are more important than ever for our young people. I hope reading the story cheers you up in these strange times.
