Uniform

The purpose of school uniform is to set a smart and business-like tone for learning. Accordingly, students who do not arrive to school in the correct uniform at the beginning of the school day will be sent home.
Parents and students are regularly reminded of uniform regulations via "Feedback" and annually on the school calendar and in the students' Record Books.  New parents and students sign an agreement to comply with the School uniform policy.

  • Tutors are initially responsible for ensuring that uniform is correct.
  • A limited supply of second-hand uniform is available for emergencies via the Office.  Students without a tie should be sent to their Head of Year to hire one for the day.
  • Limited use is made of school funds to assist genuine cases of hardship following consultation with OH.
  • All Staff are expected to ensure that uniform is worn in all lessons and that outdoor coats are not worn in the buildings.  Shirts must be tucked in and this must be checked by teachers upon entering and leaving a lesson. Blazers must not be removed, unless being swapped for an apron or specific permission is given by the teacher because the room is warm.  They should be replaced before leaving the room.

Uniform Shop

The office sells uniform before school, at break time, lunchtime and after school.

Enforcing the rules

Confiscate any excess jewellery or unsuitable items and pass them to the office with a completed pink “Confiscated Personal Item” form.  The office will then create a letter asking parents to collect it, and will issue the appropriate behaviour points.

Provide students with remover (obtainable from HOY) and insist they remove any noticeable make-up or coloured nail varnish.

Students wearing trainers, sandals, high-heeled shoes, unsuitable boots or clothes which cannot be confiscated/unacceptable hairstyles should be sent to the Head of Year, who will arrange for them to go home and change or be kept out of lessons for the remainder of the day/until the hairstyle has grown out.  The only exception to this is when the uniform item has suddenly broken/been damaged  (when one day's grace is allowed) or the student has an injury which makes their normal uniform unwearable.  Such exceptions should be supported by a note from parents.

In cases where dress or hairstyle is "borderline", students should be sent to HOY/OH for a ruling.

Positive reinforcement

Tutors should always comment favourably in Records of Progress on students who are always correctly dressed for school.
